News from the Financial Secretary
Carmen R. Romano
As most of you are aware, it is almost that time of
year for paying annual dues. Billing statements will be mailed shortly. Annual dues have been raised
from $22.00 to $30.00, primarily due to an increase
in our State per capita. I would like to take this
opportunity to urge members to pay their dues as
soon as possible upon receiving their statement.
Members who procrastinate in paying their dues
place an enormous burden on the Council, both in
terms of effort and cost. Supreme requires that four
notices be sent to such members before suspension
can even be considered. In addition, the member
must also be contacted either by telephone or faceto-
face. This requires much time and effort in
preparing and mailing the notices as well as
monetary costs for paper, printer supplies,
envelopes, and postage. Much time and effort is
also expended in contacting delinquent members. I
implore you to pay your dues promptly, save the
Council much time and money, and avoid the risk
of suspension. Members who are suspended but
later elect to return to the ranks of Knighthood lose
all of their seniority and previous years of service.
Dues are only $30.00 dollars per year, and I can’t
think of a finer, more worthwhile organization to
belong to than the Knights of Columbus - a Catholic
organization dedicated to the principles of Charity,
Unity, Fraternity, and Patriotism.
At the 126
th Supreme Convention held in Quebec
City, August 5-7, 2008, delegates unanimously
voted to approve a resolution creating a Culture of
Life Fund through an assessment of each member
of the Order in the amount of $3.00. This will cost
our Council and additional $1,326.00. Any member
wishing to help defray this cost for the Council can
include an additional $3.00 with their dues bringing
the total to $33.00. Your assistance will be deeply
appreciated. May you all have a blessed and Holy
Christmas and a Happy New Year!
